It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rev. Fr. Bennet Anthony Fernando, who was called by God to eternal rest on September 6, 2026, in Canada, at the age of 65.
Born in Mandaitivu, Sri Lanka, Fr. Bennett was ordained to the sacred priesthood on June 19, 1989 and faithfully served Christ and His Church for more than 37 years.
During his priestly ministry, he served the faithful in Myliddy, Ilavalai, Paranthan, Sandilipay, Karaveddy, Manipay, Kilinochchi, and Point Pedro (Paruthithurai). He also served in the German Tamil Catholic pastoral ministry, the Diocesan Catechetical Ministry, and in leadership responsibilities within the Kilinochchi and Point Pedro deaneries. During a difficult period in Sri Lanka, he also ministered to displaced families at the Cheddikulam camp in Vavuniya.
Through his many years of priestly service, Fr. Bennett touched countless lives through his faith, compassion, pastoral care, and dedication to his vocation. He will be remembered with gratitude and affection by his family, brother priests, parishioners, friends, and the many communities he served.
May the Lord receive His faithful servant into eternal life, and may Fr. Bennett's soul rest in eternal peace.
